Site Makeover

Walking Switzerland is in the first stages of a well-deserved makeover. Approaching 5 years old and with a growing number of site visitors changes are needed to keep the site up to date.

After nearly 5 years, Walking Switzerland has seen little development for 18 months. As a result of the major makeover that has recently been underway at sister site Walking Britain, the decsiiton has been taken to redevelop this site to match the house style. In addition there are many new walks in the pipeline and the transition to a database driven site will enable new material to be added far quicker than has been the case with a manually edited site. This will help ease the log jam of new walks and provide added impetus to the site's development.

The transformation will not happen overnight and the changes will be gradually made. This will mean that at times there will not be a consistent image across the site and page formats will be of both old and new designs for a few months. I hate setting deadlines as I alwys seem to miss them! However I hope to spend about three months completing the job, which will also include the addition of some new material. Whether I manage to do this remains to be seen but at least the intention is there!

As a result of the modifications many minor items will see some change. This includes the renumbering of the walks into a more logical system and in line with the renumbering within Walking Europe. To save confusion the old walk numbers will be used in parallel for a few months to ease the transition. In addition there will be some improvements to the maps so that more detailed information is available.

Alongside the changes to key content, some changes will be made to regional information which will see improved coverage. The various directories will hopefully be expanded adding to the range of ancilliary information that is available to site visitors. Suggestions for content addition are always welcome so if you have any strong views then please drop me a line. I have always tried to satisfy the needs of site visitors and if you have any special requests then I will endeavour to incorporate them in the revamped site.
